Sahra Wagenknecht Newsletter

This is Sahra Wagenknecht’s newsletter. In it, I provide regular updates on my activities and current political issues.

This is a major parliamentary success for the BSW! Together with the AfD, we have secured the passage of a motion in the Magdeburg state parliament calling for diplomacy and an end to the ruinous sanctions against Russia. This marks the first time a parliament in Germany has spoken out in favour of peace negotiations, an end to the highly dangerous escalation, and a halt to the billions being gifted to Kyiv. In an interview with WELT TV, I discuss why this sends an important signal to the federal government and why Chancellor Merz should finally agree to a change of course, rather than continuing to prolong the suffering in Ukraine at the expense of German taxpayers.

BSW is the Anti-Firewall Party

“The BSW is the party whose founding consensus included overcoming the ‘firewall’ and the associated camp mentality – on one side the self-proclaimed democrats, on the other the AfD. Not because we overlook the far-right wing of the AfD, but because we consider politicians who could lead Germany into a nuclear war to be at least as dangerous as ethnic fanatics who believe that a ‘true German’ must have German ancestors. And because we have witnessed how fundamental democratic rights have been destroyed in recent years, not by the AfD, but by so-called democrats.” In a guest article in the Ostdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, I explore why the ‘firewall’ has failed and why only a policy opposed to the ‘firewall’ can point the way out of the highly dangerous polarisation in the country.

We are taking the Magdeburg approach

With the peace motion, we at the BSW are fulfilling a key election promise for the first time: we reject the ‘firewall’ and intend to make constructive use of our majority in the state parliament to improve the lives of people in the state through objective cooperation with all democratically elected forces. Why this ‘Magdeburg Way’ represents a great opportunity and what the future holds for Saxony-Anhalt – I discuss this with Claudia Wittig, the deputy chair of our state parliamentary group.

Kiev Chancellor Merz

Friedrich Merz travels to Kiev in the morning with a briefcase full of cash and recoups the money from the public in the evening – through cuts to care, pensions and healthcare. Enough is enough! I gave Merz a proper piece of my mind about this during a phone call. 😉

Diesel deal for Germany

It’s completely mad: the US government is now importing diesel from Russia again to bring down skyrocketing fuel prices for American consumers. Yet the German government continues to cling to its senseless sanctions policy, which is driving our economy into ruin and making citizens ever poorer. Enough is enough! Fuel prices are still outrageously high. Germany, too, needs a diesel deal with Russia and a general return to Russian oil and gas! Without affordable energy from Russia, the decline of our industry will be unstoppable.
