Canvassing for George in Kentish Town.

Today  24th September I spent two hours canvassing for George Galloway who is contesting the bye election on the 8th of  October  in Holborn and St Pancras constituency
It was in  a very pleasant wide  road near  Kentish Town West, with well kept small terraced houses obviously owner-occupied.  The people I spoke to were young and appeared to have good jobs.
I was surprised by the friendly response when I said who I was canvassing for and most took a leaflet. Except one who said she was off to canvass for the Labour party.
I must add that nobody said they would be voting for George but I had some very interesting conversations especially when I pointed out that he was standing because he is the only candidate who opposes the current anti Russian war hysteria and the danger this is leading to.
One young  woman, at least she looked young to me but I am in my late eighties, read the leaflet and then said she agreed with his position on the Ukraine war . She then went on to say she was Ukrainian herself and her uncle in the Ukraine who was fifty-five and had already served in the army had just been abducted by six men to fight and nobody knows what has happened to him.

Another woman who said she intended to vote Labour took a leaflet. She showed me she already had a green one and she said as we live in a democracy it was important to look at all sides. When the conversation turned to how George was standing because nobody else was opposed to a war with Russia and the talk about reintroducing conscription and the problems facing young people today she agreed and said she was self tutoring her teenage son who was sitting at a table behind her, and when I said any party coming into power would be up against the power of the billionaires and the City of London she said she had just been discussing this with him.

Another told me we were in a situation in the West where our morality is in crisis.

Overall I formed the opinion that people are beginning to wake up and think more deeply as they become more aware of what is going on in the world.
