| URGENT CALL TO DEMONSTRATE |
On Monday 20th May Julian Assange will find out whether the UK will allow his extradition to the United States for his publishing which revealed war crimes and human rights abuses. We are calling for an urgent demonstration at the Royal Courts of Justice in London from 8am as the monumental decision is handed down. A decision is expected on the day; should the court find in favour of the US. Julian Assange’s extradition will likely be imminent. Following last months court hearing where the US provided only non-assurances, described by his wife Stella Assange as “weasel words”, that Julian “may seek” to raise first amendment protections (although only once extradited), rights groups have intensified their calls for the immediate release of the publisher, Amnesty International saying that “The US authorities are paving the way to a disastrous precedent for worldwide media freedom if Julian Assange is extradited”. The prosecution of Julian Assange will have global ramifications, not only for news-gathering and publishing, but also for every individual and their right to know what their government is doing in their name. We urge you at this crucial time to make your voices heard and join us on Monday 20th May from 8am as we aim to leave the courts and assembled press in no doubt that we must free Julian Assange.
