The new party, Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice, is putting up candidates for the 9 June EU elections. Note that Wagenknecht puts the death of Navalny at the door of the Russian authorities, without proof, but she highlights the fate of the West’s prisoner of conscience, Julian Assange, at the same time.
Preventing a pension catastrophe
Almost a third of full-time employees receive a pension of less than 1,100 euros net per month after 40 years of employment. Around seven million employees who currently earn up to 3,000 euros gross will be fobbed off with a pension of less than 1,400 euros in old age, according to the German government’s answer to my enquiry. Even after 45 years of employment, 43 per cent of all employees are entitled to a pension of less than 1,400 euros net – I think that’s a socio-political scandal! Germany has one of the worst pension systems in Europe. This must finally change, otherwise we are heading for a pension catastrophe!
Stop the armaments madness
The war “must be taken to Russia”, demands CDU foreign policy expert Roderich Kiesewetter in all seriousness. Ukraine should be put in a position to destroy Russian military facilities and ministries with German weapons. In my opinion, anyone who talks like that is out of their depth and is jeopardising our national security. But the “Coalition” government has also lost its grip on the issue of arms deliveries and armament. We are already spending a good 30 times as much as France on arms exports to Ukraine. But instead of finally taking a diplomatic initiative for peace negotiations, Chancellor Scholz is begging the USA for further support for the continuation of a war that is also seriously damaging our country. I think we finally need a ceasefire instead of further escalation and endless rearmament!
Wagenknecht 23 February
Anyone who cares about freedom and democracy must condemn regimes that lock up and silence their critics. Both the imprisonment and the prison conditions under which the Russian opposition politician Navalny suffered were serious human rights violations and the responsibility for Navalny’s death lies with those who deprived him of his freedom and imprisoned him in intolerable conditions. But why is there not a word from the Coalition about Julian Assange, who has been held in a British high-security prison for five years under unbearable conditions and who is now so ill that it is questionable whether he will survive the next few months? In my speech in the German Bundestag, I appeal to the Coalition to finally do something to secure Julian Assange’s release:
Why people vote for the AfD
The AfD gets elected because so many people are angry! That is the bitter truth that the politicians of the Coalition simply don’t want to understand. They ignore the fact that it is precisely their policies that are driving many people into the arms of the AfD. It is time for a fundamental change, for a sensible and fair economic policy.
Minimum wage up to 14 euro an hour
In our first official motion in the Bundestag, we as the BSW Group are calling for the minimum wage to be increased to 14 euros – a step that is urgently needed to strengthen people’s purchasing power in the face of rising energy and food prices and to provide support for our shaky economy. But what is the Coalition doing instead? At a time when our future as an industrialised country is at stake and many people fear for their jobs, it wants to reduce the debt ceiling in favour of further arms deliveries to Ukraine. In my first press statement as Chairwoman of the BSW Group, I explain why I think this is irresponsible and why we need a smart policy that promotes the economy in this country instead:
Thank you very much!
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all those who have sent us their signatures of support so that the “Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice” can stand in the European elections. Your help is irreplaceable! Only thanks to you will tens of millions of people have the opportunity on 9 June to vote for a new party that stands for an independent, peaceful and socially just Europe.
